Dog Days of Summer

Dog Days of Summer Puppy Pool Party

I think it's been a million years or so since I posted my last Silhouette project. Just to be clear, I use my cameo almost every single day – I always forget to share with you! I joined this month's Silhouette Challenge – our theme this month was Party Elements. It so happened I made a birthday cake for a neighbor's daughter, and it fit right in. To usher in summer, this little cutie had a puppy pool party. It seemed only fitting to have puppies swimming on a yummy cake.

I used decorating gel for the “water” and molded the puppies from candy clay. The cake was pretty cute when I was finished, but didn't REALLY feel done until I added this Marji Roy 3-D Beach Umbrella and Amy Robison Happy Birthday banner from the Silhouette Store! My little client loved her cake, and especially the umbrella.

I used these teeny clothespins to attach “Happy” to a length of hemp twine that I tied to two bamboo skewers and inserted into the cake.

Glue dots were an easy solution to stick “Birthday” to the cake base. Since the party was hosted outside, I wanted to make sure the letters didn't blow away in the breeze.
